Challenge
Introducing the world to something they have never seen before.
Microbe Munch produces sugar specifically designed to feed microbes that, in turn, generate materials for a wide range of industries, from silk and leather to other alternative biomaterials. Today, companies in this space rely on sugar originally produced for human consumption, leaving them exposed to commodity price fluctuations. Microbe Munch introduces a different approach: liquid glucose made from by-products of other industries, creating a more stable, cost-efficient, and higher-performing feedstock for microbial growth.
The main challenge was addressing a very broad audience. The primary target was the biomaterials industry, speaking directly to companies that work with and cultivate microbes, with the first launch taking place during New York Climate Week. At the same time, the piece needed to resonate with a wider public and function effectively on social media.
Our goal was to balance scientific rigor with a sense of playful experimentation and wit, and communicate the vast potential of Microbe Munch and its benefits to the market.
Process
What's the visual identity of “everything”?
Our starting point was simple: these microbes create everything. So we did the same, developing a wide range of visual assets that reflect the diversity of what they can produce.
One of the core creative principles of the project was that each scene should combine two or more creative disciplines, as a way to visually express the wide range of applications made possible by this new product. This required close collaboration and constant back-and-forth within the team to achieve the best results.
At times, it can be harder to define the style of a project when the possibilities are limitless and you have few constraints. We therefore had to find ways to keep the video visually cohesive and reliable, while still conveying a spirit of open experimentation.
Outcome
Making the microscopic world tangible.
The launch video successfully introduced Microbe Munch’s innovative solution, presenting its key benefits in a way that is both clear and engaging. Featured on the client’s website as the main entry point for pre-order registrations, the film highlights the product’s unique advantages while maintaining a light-hearted tone that reflects the playful spirit of the brand’s name, balancing scientific information with an accessible, memorable narrative.
