Mise en Place: A Culinary Approach with Sonja Pham

  • KREATIVES GmbH Augustenstraße 10, 80333 München München, BY, 80333 Germany (map)

As a Munich-based freelance journalist, translator, and deputy editor-in-chief/co-founder of the renowned magazine Grafikmagazin, Sonja Pham writes about design, visual culture, and the creative industry with a distinctive in-depth perspective. Together with her husband, she also runs the newsletter Cosy Delicious, exploring the delicious intersection of food and design while spotlighting the culinary creatives who inspire them.

Curious what this Creative Talk is all about?

Drawing from nearly two decades in professional kitchens, Sonja will reveal how the culinary work fundamentally shaped her approach to journalism and creative storytelling. You will gather insights about how the culinary world can be a powerful learning structure for creative professionals, teaching sensory awareness, resilience, collaboration, and a respect for process that’s increasingly rare in our digital-first era.

Through her non-linear journey, cross-cultural family life, and unique lens on food and design, Sonja invites you to explore how gastronomy and pleasure can re-enchant creative work. The session will conclude with a communal culinary meditation on creativity, an experience you won’t want to miss.

You'll learn how to:

  • How physical work shapes mental work — and why creative practice needs both

  • Creativity as a bodily, emotional, and communal experience

  • Parallels between design processes and culinary practices

  • What gastronomy teaches us about attention, resilience, rhythm, and taste

  • The impact of AI on creative work — and why kitchens, thankfully, resist automation
